MAP Layers Films

This article submitted by Shane D'Souza on 04/110.

MAP film is a multi-layer co-extruded film specially developed for Vacuum and Gas packing. Its unique layer structure increases the elongation strength, which helps reduce leakers. It is designed to provide high gas barrier and tensile strength. The new structure uses Amorphous PA (nylon) as the barrier layer which is unaffected by humidity unlike standard Nylon 6 were moisture degrades barrier over time. The inside EVA/LDPE layers weld seals to itself even through wet and greasy applications. The outside PA layer is usually corona treated (unless specified) for printing and for use of adhesive labels. The use of more layers helps increase strength hence reduces standard gauges of materials used. i.e. 60µ to 50µ & 90µ to 80µ. Typical Application MAP film is used for producing side seal pouches. The pouches are designed to be used on all vacuum and modified Atmosphere Packaging machines perishable foods such as meat, fish, poultry, cheese, nuts and non-food applications (medical & industrial).
