Packaging Nepali Ginger

This article submitted by jlawrence on 05/28.

I am assisting a ginger cooperative in Nepal. They require support in developing markets for their export quality ginger to the US and internationally. They have requested a person with direct international ginger marketing experience to assist them. The marketing volunteer would assist in reviewing requirements for processing, packaging and marketing ginger for U.S. and international markets; assist in developing direct market linkages, and; provide information regarding the potential for diversification of the Nepali ginger industry for value added products such as ginger oil, dried ginger, ginger candy, etc. The volunteer would travel to eastern Nepal (tea country) for a 3 week assignment (expenses paid-air travel to and from home of record plus per diem) in the fall of 1998. If you know of someone else in the industry with experience in marketing ginger, please contact me or respond to the address below at your earliest opportunity. For more information about the program sponsor please follow this link: http://www.winrock.org/reed/ftf/skills.htm or http://www.winrock.org. Please inquire with Ms. Nona Fisher at: for more information regarding the Nepali Ginger project. I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Nepal-agroforestry (198). This part of Nepal is rich with history and with many unique cultural features. This is special and rewarding opportunity to help a group of farmers who need a small amount of your time, support and advice. I hope you can assist them in this effort. Thank you. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, John H.
