HAZARDOUS MATERIAL TRAINING

HAZARDOUS MATERIAL TRAINING IN MODULAR FORMAT. Training hazmat employees to comply with the DOT hazardous materials transportation requirements can be accomplished in an effective and cost-efficient manner using the Hazardous Materials Modular Training Program. The course was developed by the Transportation Management Division, U.S. Department of Energy, and approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation. When facility-unique information is incorporated, the modular training program meets the general awareness, safety, function-specific, and driver training requirements addressed in 49 CFR part 172 Subpart H. The modular design of the program allows trainers to tailor courses to meet the needs of hazmat employees. This training program is comprised of 15 modules. The first 10 modules are referred to as the "Core 10" consisting of: 1. General Awareness/Familiarization 2. Identification of Hazardous Material 3. Packing Operations 4. Marking of Packages 5. Labeling of Packages 6. Shipping Papers 7. Placarding 8. Separation and Segregation for Highway Transport 9. Special and Unique Moves 10.Safety Requirements specific to radioactive materials, hazardous wastes, bulk packaging, explosives,and driver training are addressed in Modules 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15. To meet the requirements for General Awareness/Familiarization and Safety Training, the participant must successfully complete Modules 1 and 10. To meet a "Core 10" Function Specific Training requirement, the participant must first have successfully completed Modules 1, 2 and 10, and then successfully complete the applicable function specific training, Modules 3 through 9, as applicable. Each module consists of classroom training, including viewgraphs, student notes manual, student study guide, examination, and certificate of completion. Passing score for each examination is a minimum 80% grade. Certificates of completion contain the DOT and DOE name and seal. All instructors have certificates from the U.S. Department of Transpotation, Transportation Institute as successfully completing their instructor training for Hazardous Materials Transportation Course.
